Outdated lighting in a large commercial or industrial building can be responsible for the majority of the onsite electricity usage.  This can often be completed through simple re lamping.

One way to reduce the cost of operating an older lighting system is to replace it with a newer, more-efficient system. Granted that could cost a fair amount of money but that would be recouped over time, but there is another way which may cost less, and that is to upgrade existing, obsolete lighting systems with energy-efficient lamps, ballasts, fixtures and controls, i.e re lamping, especially in new buildings because of energy codes.

Both strategies, which C|S|M can provide, are designed to help lower energy use and save on utility costs.

Benefits of a lighting upgrade

Of course you don’t want to upgrade and re lamp too often, but when you compare the lifespan of aged lamps against the newest now on the market it may surprise you to know that new, more efficient lamps have a lifespan of between 5 and 10 years.

C|S|M, maintenance contractors in London can help you to dramatically reduce the cost and disruption of maintaining an existing lighting system. Replacing lamps (re lamping) at high mounting heights may involve hiring expensive lifting equipment and/or contractors, but that is lessened to a great degree by fitting new which provide 5-10 operational years between changes.

Staff productivity can be increased in a more comfortable working environment when areas are lit brightly enough and with a more suitable quality of light for the work being undertaken. Another benefit of the new generation of lighting includes the ability to get full light brightness instantly with no warm-up or restrike time.

New lighting address existing health and safety issues such as: ensuring that CIBSE lighting levels guidelines are met, eliminating dimness in dangerous working areas, lowering existing glare, replacing the risks associated with older, unsafe electrical equipment etc. This can protect a business against liability and bring a site up to scratch as an example of best practice.

Old inefficient lamps are being discontinued by manufacturers - by upgrading lighting systems now the associated risks of this are eliminated

Long lamp relampingFurther financial benefits

An investment in new lighting technology can reduce current direct lighting costs by up to 80% with further indirect cost savings.

Energy saving lighting qualifies for Carbon Trust financial assistance so you may be able to avoid making any capital outlay, only paying as you make savings.

Continuation of business during an upgrade

In view of the scale of some upgrades there may well be some disruption to normal working being carried out though this depends to a great degree on whether our team has to bring in any equipment to overcome height problems.

Normally though, lighting upgrades are carried out quite swiftly, but you always have the option of requesting this be done outside your normal working hours – evenings and weekends. They could always be included as part of a pre-planned maintenance schedule.
